5 steps to building the best night-time skincare routine: Which products to use and in what order
A consistent skincare routine is the key to healthy skin. Our skin is most receptive to topical products at night, which is why a night-time skincare routine is essential to maintaining healthy skin. The number one beauty cardinal sin is leaving your makeup on all night, this is because it can clog pores and cause breakouts and worsen existing ones. However, coming up with an entire skincare routine can seem daunting. So here are our 6 steps to building the best night-time skincare routine, the products to use and in what specific order.
1. Remove surface makeup
Your skin is exposed to so much throughout the day like dirt, pollution, sun damage, not to mention topical makeup products – all of which are threats to your skin’s health.
Which is why experts normally recommend to double cleanse. The best way to achieve a double cleanse is to remove the surface layer of makeup with a micellar makeup remover or cream makeup remover followed by your cleanser of choice.
Micellar water effectively removes makeup and gently cleans skin in a simple, single step. They are a no rinse formula that works without excessive rubbing or tugging on your skin, avoiding irritation.
We recommend the Skin Nutrition Micellar Makeup Remover + Cleanser as it is suitable for all skin types and removes all types of eye, lip, and face makeup.
2. Cleanse the day away
No matter your skin type, a cleanser is a vital step to a skincare routine. Although you have removed the surface layer of dirt and pollutants, you have not actually cleansed the skin. Therefore, cleansing the second time will work its way deeper into the skin, and remove water-based debris such as sweat and dirt. A reliable cleanser should clear away dead skin cells and clogged pores to ensure the best possible (and most absorbent) base for your following skincare.
The Skin Nutrition Renewing Foam Cleanser is the perfect night time cleanser to remove pollution and other impurities from the skin. Rich and creamy in texture, it not only cleanses skin but conditions it whilst surging hydration back into the skin.
3. Prepare your skin for treatment & moisturiser
Toner is a crucial step to preparing your skin for the steps ahead. A good toner will help to balance your skins pH levels and moisture levels. They are also especially useful for oily or acne-prone skin because they help refine pores and soothe skin after cleansing.
Try the Skin Nutrition Renewing Softening Toner for a rush of soothing moisture to help stabilise and nurture your skins microbiome.
4. Treat your skincare concerns
First up, determine what your skincare concerns are. The best way to do this is to take a look at your skin after you have completed steps 1-3. Do you spot some scarring? Dry or flaky skin? Acne? Loss of skin tightness or firmness? From there, you can determine which targeted treatment you want to implement into your routine.
Protect your skin against free radical damage, early signs of aging, and other issues by using a serum. Serums contain a higher concentration of ingredients and penetrate deeper into the skins surface so they’re more effective in treating skin concerns than a moisturiser will be.
With the ARTISTRY Signature Select® Base Serum you can target your specific skincare concerns by choosing to add up to three amplifiers to the base serum, which address your specific skincare concerns. Choose from the Hydration, Anti-spot, Firming, Brightening and Anti-wrinkle serum amplifiers.
5. Lock in moisture
Skin moisture plays a critical role in maintaining a healthy and balanced complexion. Your skin must be moisturised daily to prevent and protect your skin. During the night, your skin produces less sebum because it’s not threatened by external environmental stressors. Also known as the skin’s natural moisturiser, sebum coats, moisturises and protects the skin. This decreased sebum production makes your skin more vulnerable to dryness, making a hydrating moisturiser an essential when it comes to your night-time skincare routine.
For a radiant and youthful glow, try the Skin Nutrition Renewing Reactivation Cream. Targeted specifically to help restore skins youthful-looking condition whilst reducing the appearance of lines, wrinkles, and uneven skin tone.
6. Protect the delicate eye area
The skin around the eye area is a much more delicate and thinner layer of skin than the rest of our face. To protect that thin layer of skin under the eye, it’s best to use a specially formulated eye cream.
For a more youthful under eye area, Skin Nutrition Renewing Reactivation Eye Cream reduces multiple visible signs of ageing and stress: lines, wrinkles, loss of firmness, dryness, dark circles and puffiness whilst providing 24-hour hydration.
Consistently following this night-time skincare routine is going to help your skin look and feel its healthiest. Once or twice a week, you can add in a few extras as well such as a great face mask to target specific skincare concerns, an exfoliant to gently remove dead skin cells or a peel to promote fresh, luminous new skin if you are feeling fancy.
